The Town of Barnstable is seeking to hire an Assistant Town Attorney who will be responsible for litigation, zoning and land use and other regulatory matters, and who will assist the Town Attorney in advising Town employees and board and committee members on legal issues affecting the Town. The Assistant Town Attorney will represent the Town in legal proceedings and quasi-judicial or administrative proceedings before courts and regulatory agencies. The successful candidate will: have a Juris Doctor degree, be admitted to practice in Massachusetts and be admitted or eligible to practice in federal court; and have at least 7 years of litigation experience, including at least 5 years of municipal experience or equivalent. Zoning and land use and real estate experience preferred. Experience with affordable housing and trusts a plus. Must be able to communicate clearly and effectively, possess excellent judgment and have strong research and writing skills. Must be able to prioritize and multi-task. May be required to attend Town Council and other night meetings.
