Chief of Staff Role

Our client is seeking a Chief of Staff to join their dynamic leadership team and work closely with the COO/CFO. This pivotal role will operate as an extension of the COO/CFO, owning strategic initiatives, ensuring operational efficiency, and driving company-wide accountability for goals. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment and excels at balancing strategic thinking with hands-on execution, particularly in M&A due diligence and integration activities and is interested in stepping into the CFO role within 1-2 years.

This will be a full-time, exempt position based 3-4x/week onsite in New York, NY (Financial District).

Responsibilities

Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) - 33%

  • Lead financial planning, budgeting, and forecasting processes across all business units

  • Develop and maintain sophisticated financial models for scenario planning and strategic decision-making

  • Oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting and variance analysis

  • Partner with department heads to create and monitor departmental budgets and KPIs

  • Conduct deep-dive financial analyses to identify trends, opportunities, and risks

  • Support board meetings with comprehensive financial presentations and insights

  • Manage cash flow forecasting and working capital optimization initiatives

Mergers & Acquisitions (M&A) - 33%
  • Support due diligence processes for potential acquisitions, including data room management and financial analysis

  • Conduct business evaluations and create comprehensive analytical outputs for executive and board-level discussions

  • Support integration planning and execution for acquired companies, managing both internal stakeholders and external acquisition teams

  • Interface directly with CEOs and founders of potential acquisition targets to assess strategic fit

  • Develop valuation models and investment committee presentations

  • Coordinate with legal, tax, and other advisors throughout the M&A process

  • Track post-acquisition performance metrics and integration milestones

Strategic Operations - 33%
  • Partner with the COO/CFO to prioritize and execute strategic initiatives aligned with company objectives

  • Manage and refine KPI structures, ensuring alignment with business objectives and performance incentives

  • Drive company operating cadence, including preparation of board materials, quarterly reviews, and leadership offsites

  • Lead strategic management offsites and cross-functional planning initiatives

  • Proactively identify areas for operational enhancement and design innovative solutions to optimize efficiency

  • Enhance executive effectiveness by streamlining meeting preparation, creating impactful agendas, and driving actionable follow-ups

  • Represent the COO/CFO in cross-functional initiatives and act as a trusted liaison between executive team and organizational stakeholders

  • Interface confidently with senior management team, board members, and external parties with executive presence and maturity

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, or a related field

  • 5–8+ years of experience in investment banking and/or private equity, with strong preference for candidates with both backgrounds

  • Advanced analytical and technical skills, including sophisticated financial modeling and expert-level proficiency in Excel

  • Experience with M&A processes, including due diligence, valuation, and integration

  • Demonstrated ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects with a focus on delivering measurable results

  • Exceptional communication skills and executive presence suitable for board-level and senior external stakeholder interactions

  • Proven track record of successfully managing operational frameworks (e.g., KPIs, financial reporting)

  • Strong business acumen, organizational skills, and adaptability to thrive in a fast-paced environment

  • Professional maturity and communication skills to interface effectively with C-level executives, board members, and external senior parties

Preferred Skills & Attributes
  • Direct experience in private equity-backed companies, particularly with portfolio company operations

  • Familiarity with operational methodologies like OKRs, EOS, or similar frameworks

  • Hands-on experience leading M&A due diligence and post-acquisition integration processes

  • Leadership experience in roles with increasing responsibility and scope

  • A passion for innovation and continuous improvement, aligned with a solution-oriented, fail-fast culture

  • Experience working with subscription-based business models

Compensation Range: DOE $150,000 - $200,000 USD annual salary + 25% bonus
