Much before Corona arrived, an elderly couple lived in a suburban town of West Bengal, in a humble abode with their son’s family, spending their times bantering with their grandson.
Then, one day, the son left in search of a better life! The bond with their much-loved grandson was broken.
And then there was Corona! The solace that they sought in their grandson’s photographs and his scribblings on walls was overlapped by alien-looking health-workers in PPE kits entering their house and lives! Can they save themselves and their home filled with memories of their little grandson from this unprecedented crisis?
Bijoy Chowdhury graduated from the Government College of Art and Craft, Calcutta and now works as photographer and documentary filmmaker.
He has vast experience in commercial and social documentary photography. His documentary film ‘Khawto’ was exhibited at more than 14 festivals around the globe and won several awards in India and abroad. His fictional short film Undivided Solitude won the Fur Gold Lotus Award – Best Film (Fiction) in the Professional category at the PSBT Film Challenge 2020-21.
He won several national and international awards such as the Commonwealth and National Geographic Traveler Photo Award. His solo exhibition was held in Delhi and Mumbai. He has participated in group exhibitions in London, Amsterdam and Sweden. Several national and international magazines have published his portfolio.
The international photography magazine ‘Private’ published his portfolio twice. He continues to work on several long-term documentary projects of socio-economic interest. The Government of India has honoured him with the Senior National Fellowship in photography.
