Charu lives with her friends in a rented accommodation in Mumbai. One day a painter visits the house to paint a wall which leaves Charu miffed because she wasn't informed about it by anyone. Charu asks the painter to quickly finish his job and gets busy. A few minutes later she discovers that the painter is lying unconscious on the floor. Charu looks for some kind of identification on the man but doesn't find one. Not knowing who to inform or call, Charu takes the painter to a hospital and decides to find out the identity of the stranger.
A graduate of India’s prestigious film school, F.T.I.I., Kamal has worked extensively with renowned cinematographer and director Santosh Sivan as an associate director and writer (Before the Rains, Tahaan). I.D., his debut feature film, and the first of the Collective Phase One collaboration, has been screened at various international film festivals including Busan, Abu Dhabi, Turino, Marrakech, IFFK, IFFI, Rotterdam, Edinburgh, Los Angeles winning nine international awards. I.D. has been highly regarded critically from Les Cahiers de Cinema to the Wall Street Journal. Kamal has been awarded India’s two major awards for his work on I.D., the Aravindan Award and the Gollapudi Srinivas National Award for Best Debut Director. He worked as Associate Professor heading the Screen writing and Direction department in K.R. Narayanan National Institute of Visual Science and Arts, Kerala, in the term of 2014-2017. His second feature film ‘Pada’ was released worldwide in March 2022.
